Why Support PSCSTA?

 

At Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers Association (PSCSTA) – aka CSTA Puget Sound (WA) - our mission is:

"Provide community, professional development, support, and advocacy for computer science teachers throughout Washington and help them provide equitable, high-quality CS education to all K-12 Washington state students."

While our origins are in the Puget Sound region, we are dedicated to supporting CS teachers and the equitable growth of CS education throughout Washington.
 
We need your help to fulfill our mission. Your sponsorships and donations will support the following worthwhile projects.

PSCSTA is a local chapter of CSTA (a nationwide membership organization run by CS teachers for CS teachers). 
 

Washington CS Endorsement Exam Prep Course

In cooperation with Shoreline Community College, PSCSTA teaches an online, self-paced course with weekly virtual office hours to prepare teachers for the Washington CS endorsement exam and provide teachers with the support infrastructure to succeed in their first-year teaching CS and beyond.   For more information, see Course Details.

Your sponsorship will provide scholarships to public school teachers and juniors/seniors in teacher prep programs in Washington.

 

Washington Computer Science Education Dashboards

The Washington State CS Education Dashboard SY 2022 and the Washington CSEd within CTE Dashboard SY 2021 provide detailed visualizations of how students participate in computer science and other CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses throughout Washington.   

Your sponsorship will help develop specific versions of these dashboards focusing on gender, race/ethnicity, and income, and the development of new dashboards when new school year data becomes available.

PSCSTA Connector - Monthly Newsletter

PSCSTA publishes the Connector - our monthly newsletter - for distribution throughout the entire Washington CS Education community. 

The Connector features news and data, events and services, CS teacher profiles, and profiles of the  organizations supporting CS Ed in Washington.   
 
The Connector is sent to over 700 educators each month and all issues are available from our web site.
Washington Clock Hours for CS Educators
 

PSCSTA provides free Washington clock hours for several CSTA online courses and events covering topics such as cyber-security, data science, and identity-inclusive computing.  During 2022-23, we hosted an in-person Physical Computing workshop and plan host similar events this school year.   

Your sponsorship will help defray the costs of clock hour administration and of providing these in-person workshops.

CS Educator Community
 

PSCSTA provides a community for CS educators in Washington through its website, e-mail, the CSTA Community platform, weekly office hours, quarterly open meetings, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X accounts. 

PSCSTA hosts several virtual events for CS educators throughout Washington and in-person events primarily in Puget Sound.  We also fund and support in-person gatherings of our members throughout Washington.
